Election Information

Each Conservation District is governed by a board of publicly elected Supervisors who are residents of the District. There are five elected or appointed supervisors per District, each serving a five-year term. By statute, a supervisor must meet the following minimum requirements:  reside within the boundaries of the District, be, by training and or experience, qualified to perform the services required of them, and may not be an employee of the federal government.

The Supervisors' responsibilities include:  developing and supporting the District's mission, guiding program priorities based on local natural resource needs, working with the staff and providing financial oversight.

ELECTION OF CONSERVATION DISTRICT SUPERVISOR  FOR THE WHITE RIVER NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION DISTRICT 

WR NRCD Supervisor Candidate Petition 2025

To all landowners residing within the boundaries of the White River Natural Resources Conservation District (NRCD), notice is hereby given that on November 27, 2024, petitions for the position of Supervisor for the Conservation District will be available. An election will be held on January 3, 2025, for two Supervisors for the District. Petitions must be completed and returned to the local Conservation District office (whiterivernrcd@gmail.com or 28 Farmvu Drive, White River Junction, VT 05001) by close of business on December 19th, 2024. 

To have your name placed on the January 3rd election ballot for the office of District Supervisor, a person must have a minimum of twenty-five (25) signatures on nominating petitions. Candidates for the position of Supervisor must be residents of the District. You do not have to own land to serve as a Supervisor. Only persons who hold title-in-fee land and reside within the District are eligible to sign a petition or vote. Supervisors are elected for 5 year terms, and may not be employees of the federal government. If there are no nominations, the District Supervisors may appoint a new Supervisor to fill a vacant seat. District Supervisors meet monthly and are paid at a per diem rate of $150 per meeting. 

Conservation Districts are local subdivisions of state government established under the 1939 Soil Conservation Act of Vermont to cooperate with landowners and municipalities in applying conservation practices to the land. Conservation Districts sponsor and coordinate educational, technical, and financial assistance to address soil health, water quality, and the conservation of natural resources.
